Home Group Guide for 2/13-2/19, 2011
One of the greatest challenges that my wife and I face every week is figuring out what we are going to do at Home Group. By God’s grace, we are able to put a plan together…even if it’s last minute…and have a decent Home Group experience. But many times, we just fall into a default mode…Eat, Fellowship, Share prayer requests, Pray, Go home, Rinse, Repeat. Often the children in our group get “the short end of the stick” when it comes to prepping for them, and though no one is complaining, I often feel like with some effort and planning, we could have made better use of our time together.
We also realize that, if you are like me, then you have a few things going on in your life between Home Group nights. The proverbial “tyranny of the urgent” kicks in and once again, we are scrambling to put something together for HG. It would help us, as HG leaders, if we had a resource, a guide (so to speak), to help us have a great night for all involved…something that will take the pressure off of us and allow me to enjoy the night and feel like we actually accomplished something.
With this in mind, our Area Pastors have developed a Weekly Home Group Guide for your use. This will be a one page document that provides ideas and suggestions for each phase of your HG night. This is a resource for you to use, not a mandate, but we would like you to take advantage of the Guide. The HG Guide will be time sensitive. That means the suggestions and ideas presented will be aligned with what’s happening in our church. For example, if David is preaching on “Adoption”, the Guide will provide ideas, discussion topics, projects that will go along with that BIG IDEA. You will begin receiving the Guide every Thursday by email as a PDF. They will also be posted here on this site.
